THE RACE FOR PSL CUP

PSL Coaches express themselves with confidence Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter was maintaining hope, despite the setback against the Clever Boys. “We would have liked three points, but we will take the one because that one may be the difference between winning it (the title) and not winning it. We would have liked to have taken the three points to keep the pressure firmly on, but it doesn’t matter they have to win their games as well and if they do and have more points at the end of the season, then I will be the first to congratulate them said Baxter.” Meanwhile Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was finally ready to admit that the Brazilians are preferences to win the Absa Premiership. “We have to be honest - we have the advantage. It is up to us if we keep our momentum of winning from nine to eleven wins in a row. If we do that at this point in time, I will agree with you that we have the advantage. But as I told you, if you have two games in hand, I said those are potential points and not points in the bag. So we also have potential points, not points in the bag.”

Orlando Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic battled to contain his frustration after his side drew 1-1 with Platinum Stars on the weekend. “The first half we played bad and second half it was much better. It looks like our guys are afraid of mistakes and play without confidence. When they play and score a goal their confidence is up, and they show they can play. I don’t know what is going on, maybe they are waiting for the end for the season because it has been long for them. Mistakes happen in football as in life, and they make mistakes on the field, but they have to be free and enjoy the game - they are good players.”

Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese says he is concerned that Dikwena may not pull off a top eight finish. “It is a concern for me, for the club and for the players as well. We are the champions but we cannot defend it. So it is a concern for us. It will be disappointing if we don't make it. If we do qualify it will be a good season, but we are all concerned about not being in the top eight. We are very much worried about that, so if we don't [make it] it will be a bad season.”

Cavin Johnson after seeing SuperSport United being edged out 1-0 by Golden Arrows. “We lost, what else you want to do? And make no mistake, I lost. We had a plan but we lost. We gave them the ball and they scored a goal and we lost. I'm disappointed. Football is about winning and if you lose the game you lost and unlucky for us today and good luck to Golden Arrows."

Polokwane City coach Boebie Solomons is upbeat on his side’s chances of staying clear of the relegation zone. “We now have two games left and we’ll take it as a normal game as we usually do, we don’t want to keep our players under unnecessary pressure. That’s the worst thing we’ll ever do to the guys. I just told them to go to the game, enjoy yourselves, do your best and the results will come. The guys are doing well, confident and they’re united. It’s just a matter of continuity at this stage. We’ve prepared well and the guys showed determination and I’m pleased.”
